The food didn’t have to be trucked from some distant place, which means less fuel was used, and fewer emissions were given off into the air.
Maybe you could think about using recyclable containers to carry your lunch to work instead of going out to lunch every day. A huge amount of packaging is nowadays used with food, and you can help with the waste by using reusable containers every chance you get.
